"We’re Like Grandfathers Now" – Pasuma Reflects on Shared Legacy with Saheed Osupa

Popular Nigerian Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, recently opened up about his enduring bond with fellow Fuji legend, King Dr. Saheed Osupa, and the emotional loss of his mother. Speaking on the Wasila Coded Podcast, Pasuma reflected on the parallel journeys he and Saheed Osupa have taken in the Fuji music industry, calling their achievements “similar milestones” and acknowledging their lasting influence on the next generation.

Pasuma proudly stated that both he and Osupa are now regarded as “grandfathers in the Fuji music scene,” serving as role models and inspirations to up-and-coming Fuji artists. He emphasized the importance of unity and growth within the genre, noting that their shared accomplishments continue to shape the future of Fuji music in Nigeria.

In a more emotional moment during the interview, Pasuma also opened up about the peaceful passing of his beloved mother, describing the final moments he shared with her. He recalled receiving a phone call urging him to visit her after she had begun acting strangely.

“When I got there, I told them there was nothing wrong with her because I believed she would be fine when she saw me. She was sleeping on my lap the day she died, and I still believed she would wake up,” he said.

Pasuma revealed that his mother was not sick before her death. On the day she passed, she had eaten her meal, performed her daily prayers, and told the family she wanted to rest—but she never woke up again.

Despite his deep closeness to her, Pasuma said he accepted her passing with grace, believing it was simply her time.

“I’m just happy because we didn’t have to move her from one hospital to another. She wasn’t in pain. It was peaceful,” he shared.

As he continues to carry the torch for Fuji music, Pasuma’s reflections remind fans of both his deep humanity and the rich legacy he shares with fellow music giant Saheed Osupa.
