Veteran Fuji maestro, General Kollington Ayinla, has reignited public interest in his storied past with fellow music legend Queen Salawa Abeni, following a heartfelt revelation on a recent episode of The Teju Babyface Show. At 71, the iconic artist shared that despite years of separation and Salawa’s current romantic involvement, he still regards her as his wife for life.
“She’s more than just someone I dated. We have three children together. She is my wife forever — that’s how destiny arranged it,” he said.
Reflecting on their decades-long history, Kollington spoke with deep sincerity, noting that what they shared was far more profound than a typical relationship. He highlighted the immense pressures that come with fame—particularly for women—as a contributing factor to the breakdown of their union.
“She’s famous, and like male stars attract women, female stars attract men too. But women don’t always have the same emotional strength to deal with that,” he remarked.
Yet, through time and distance, the Fuji veteran insists their bond has never truly been broken.
“Whatever I’m doing, she always shows up. She’s still mine. Whoever she’s with now is just borrowing her,” he stated firmly.
Once celebrated as one of the most beloved power couples in Nigeria’s music scene, Kollington and Salawa Abeni remain influential figures. Their enduring legacies continue to shape the Yoruba music landscape, earning them respect and admiration both individually and as cultural icons.
