“We Were Used and Abandoned” — Veteran Actor Lalude Cries Out Over Broken Promises After Campaigning for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu

Veteran Yoruba actor Fatai Adekunle Adetayo, popularly known as Lalude, has openly expressed his frustration and disappointment after what he described as neglect by political figures he supported during the 2023 elections.

In a revealing interview on the "Behind the Fame" podcast, Lalude said he and other Nollywood actors actively campaigned for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, but were left empty-handed despite being promised financial compensation.

“After we campaigned for Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu, we were not given a dime,” Lalude stated bluntly.

MC Oluomo Accused of Betrayal

The actor specifically called out MC Oluomo, Chairman of the NURTW, accusing him of failing to fulfil his promises. According to Lalude, they were initially paid ₦10,000 per day for feeding, but even that stopped abruptly, and promises of ₦1.5 million each made to him and veteran comedian Ganiu ‘Alapini’ Nofiu were never fulfilled.

“MC asked us to name our price, and we did. But we got nothing. We finished the work, and no dime was given to us. Is that fair?” he lamented.

Lalude said they spent seven weeks on campaign duties, often trekking while others passed by in cars, only to be abandoned after elections.

“Those Behind This Will Not Prosper”

In a visibly emotional tone, Lalude cursed those behind the failed promises, warning that come 2027, things will not go the same way.

“They used us and dumped us. Those responsible will not prosper,” he said, hinting that future campaigns won’t be business as usual.

Not Alone in Regret

Lalude's experience echoes similar sentiments from fellow entertainers like Aminatu Papapa and Alapini, who have also publicly voiced regret and disappointment over their involvement in the campaign, revealing that many artists were misled with false promises.

The outburst has sparked reactions on social media, with many calling for accountability and better treatment of entertainers involved in political campaigns.
