Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised serious concerns over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, describing the country as a “killing field.”
Atiku made this statement on Thursday in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), reacting to recent reports of deadly attacks in Kwara, Katsina, and Benue states. He said the repeated massacres across different parts of the country show a clear failure of the government to protect its citizens.
According to him, the growing number of attacks and the frequency with which they occur highlight what he called a “catastrophic failure” of the state, especially in safeguarding vulnerable communities. He stressed that Nigerians can no longer accept routine condemnations from leaders after mass burials.
Atiku urged security agencies to move away from reactive responses and adopt proactive and preventive strategies. He warned that communities that are constantly attacked should not be left exposed to criminals without adequate protection.
Expressing deep pain over the killings, the former vice president called on the Federal Government, state governments, and local communities to work together urgently to end the violence. He added that the death of even one Nigerian is unacceptable and represents a serious failure of leadership.
His comments come amid growing public concern over insecurity and renewed calls for stronger and more effective action to protect lives across the country.
