The United States Mission Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of the United States Embassy Abuja due to the possibility of protests in the city.
The announcement was made on Thursday through the mission’s official social media page. According to the statement, the embassy will remain closed for routine services until Monday, March 9, 2026.
Because of the closure, visa appointments that were scheduled for March 4 and March 5, as well as American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments for March 5, have been moved to next week.
The mission advised visa applicants to check their email or AVITS account for new appointment dates. It also told ACS applicants to check their email for updated schedules.
In addition, the embassy said that anyone who does not receive a new appointment date should contact the Visa Navigator platform for help.
The mission urged the public to keep checking its official website and social media pages for more updates regarding embassy services and operations.
