Nollywood actress and filmmaker Wumi Toriola has expressed frustration over what she described as the growing number of inexperienced actors charging high fees in the industry.
In a series of posts on social media, the actress lamented that many upcoming actors lack proper talent and are not willing to work on their craft, yet demand unrealistic payments.
In her words:
“Involve me?? You sabi act? The few ones wey sabi won’t wait till they start selling market before they call ridiculous prices… As a producer and an actor, I am angry. Pls call the price, but you see that ‘craft,’ be sure you know it… Half-baked actors with no intention of growing or working on their craft fill the place.”
She also described the difficulties faced on set due to poor performance from some actors, revealing that multiple retakes often slow down production.
In another post, Wumi highlighted her commitment to supporting new talents, noting that she works with many upcoming actors but ensures they are well-prepared before introducing them to bigger opportunities.
“Nobody uses upcoming reach me. Check my movies, blend of stars and new talents… Call price but go market first and be sure dem don know you. No be to blow on social media… I am for the grassroots.”
The actress further called for better training in acting institutions, stressing that some individuals pay for training but still lack the required skills on set.
“If you must sell forms for the School of Arts, please have time to train them… Not just to collect money; they give us problems on set. I am on take 40 as we speak.”
Her remarks have sparked reactions online, with many agreeing on the need for professionalism and proper skill development in Nollywood, while others pointed out the struggles faced by rising actors trying to break into the industry.
