The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, have denied allegations that they influenced members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to begin impeachment moves against Governor Seyi Makinde.
The controversy began after reports surfaced suggesting that Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin was at the centre of an alleged political plot. Some lawmakers later released individual statements distancing themselves from any discussion involving the Speaker, the Olubadan, or Florence Ajimobi.
According to a viral statement by the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, Speaker Ogundoyin was reportedly invited separately by both the Olubadan and Florence Ajimobi.
The statement claimed that during the meeting, the Olubadan allegedly advised the Speaker on his political ambitions and promised to help him secure a House of Representatives ticket under the APC, along with financial support for the election. It further alleged that Ogundoyin declined the offer and did not receive any money.
It also claimed that Florence Ajimobi had a similar discussion with the Speaker on the same political subject.
However, Oyekola insisted he was not part of any such meetings and strongly denied any involvement, saying he remains loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde.
The statement further alleged that the meetings were intended to cause division within the House of Assembly and destabilise the state government ahead of a possible impeachment move. It also stated that Ogundoyin rejected any form of inducement.
The allegations have continued to generate political tension in the state, while all parties mentioned have denied wrongdoing.
