Afrobeats singer Brymo has called for a major shift in the Nigerian music industry, urging top stars to step aside and allow younger artistes to grow.
Speaking in an interview on TVC, Brymo criticised the popular “Big 3” label used for Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy. According to him, the continued dominance of a few established names is blocking opportunities for upcoming talents in the industry.
Brymo said the industry should stop blaming new artistes for lacking substance and instead focus on what he described as unfair control of the music space by older stars. He argued that some of these acts are trying to “lock down” the industry for themselves, preventing new voices from breaking through.
He questioned what happens to young artistes who already have hit songs but cannot grow further because the space is overcrowded. He also mentioned singer Rema as an example of a younger act he believes should be leading global pop conversations.
Brymo further stated that radio airplay and industry connections do not define true success or relevance. He insisted that the music industry must evolve with global standards and give more visibility to emerging artistes.
He concluded that established stars should “move aside and evolve,” adding that newer talents deserve more attention in the pop music scene.
