The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan has confirmed the abduction of a 300-level Law student, identified as Tomisin Abo, following reports of her disappearance after a religious event.
In a statement signed by SUG President, Temidayo Adeboye, the union explained that Tomisin had travelled for a religious retreat alongside the National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Uwem Cosmos, and eight other participants.
Tomisin, who serves as the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Nigeria, and Vice President of the fellowship’s University of Ibadan chapter, was reportedly returning from the Scripture Union National Conference held at the Camp of Faith when contact with her was lost.
The union dismissed reports claiming that eight UI students were missing, clarifying that Tomisin is the only student from the institution currently unaccounted for. According to the SUG, efforts are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, with security agencies and relevant religious organisations already involved in the search.
Her absence became a source of concern after she failed to appear for her faculty examinations on Monday and Tuesday. Reports also indicated that another University of Ibadan student from the Department of Music, who attended the conference, returned safely, while only the vehicle conveying the General Director remains missing.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Student Affairs, Ademola Lewis, confirmed that the university is aware of the situation. He noted that the institution was not informed beforehand about the trip but assured that efforts are underway to secure the student's safe return.
The university has also urged students and members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
