Lateef Adedimeji has opened up about the inspiration behind his emotional acting style, revealing that his famous crying roles were a deliberate move to stand out in Nollywood.
Speaking during an interview with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the award-winning actor recalled that when he first entered the movie industry, many people referred to him as "the guy who looks like" Odunlade Adekola. Determined to build his own identity, he decided to become known for something unique—his ability to deliver emotional crying scenes.
According to Lateef, the decision paid off, as audiences soon began referring to him as the "Crying Machine." He said many fans recognized him by his emotional performances, even when they did not know his real name.
The actor also spoke about his popular "Iya Peju" character, revealing that it was created during the COVID-19 lockdown. He admitted that he initially saw it as a fun project and never expected it to become a fan favorite. However, after viewers kept requesting more episodes, he realized the character had become a hit.
Lateef's revelations have given fans a glimpse into the strategic decisions behind his successful career, highlighting how he turned a unique acting style into one of the most recognizable brands in Nollywood.
