Troops of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army have successfully rescued eight civilians who were kidnapped along the Ikang-Cameroon waterways. The victims, including six adults and two children, were intercepted by militants while travelling on a commercial boat.
According to Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the rescue operation followed credible intelligence from local communities. Acting on the information, troops deployed quickly, blocked escape routes, and dominated the waterways. The militants abandoned the victims at Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into the creeks.
The rescued civilians were safely taken to the Brigade’s location, documented, and later released. No casualties were recorded during the operation. Troops continue to patrol the area to prevent the militants from regrouping or carrying out further criminal acts.
Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena, Commander of the 13 Brigade, praised the troops for their professionalism and quick action. He also thanked the local community for providing vital information that helped in the rescue.
He reassured the public that the Brigade remains committed to protecting lives and property and encouraged citizens to keep providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
