So Heartbreaking! Gospel Singer Busola Oke Opens Up on Hunger, Debt, and Depression

Popular gospel singer Busola Oke, widely known as Eleyele, has opened up about the painful struggles she has faced behind the scenes of her music career.

In an emotional interview, the singer revealed that the viral video she shared recently was recorded out of deep frustration and hunger.

“I did that video because I was hungry,” she said, fighting back tears. “There are times I look at myself and I cannot even provide food for myself.”

Busola explained that although she performs on stage, the money she earns from some shows barely covers her transportation costs, leaving her with little or nothing to care for herself and her children. She admitted that she has been living in debt for years and owes many people.

“I live my life on debt. Debt all over. I don’t know what can happen tomorrow, but I don’t want to leave this world with debt. I want to be free,” she said.

The singer also spoke about her battle with depression. She clarified that she never intended to take her own life because of her Christian faith, but she felt lonely and overwhelmed.

“I just wanted someone to tell me, ‘I love you.’ I communicated with my fans because I was depressed. I needed to hear someone’s voice, to know I wasn’t alone,” she explained.

Beyond financial hardship, Busola shared disturbing experiences of seeking help from people who later tried to exploit her. She said she once approached someone for assistance, only to be asked to do inappropriate things in return. When she refused, she was left stranded without transport fare.

She also recounted painful moments of homelessness, including nights spent in different places with her children and even three nights at an airport with only a wrapper to cover them. She described a frightening incident when her car caught fire while she was inside her home.

“There was a time I prayed to God that instead of leaving me to suffer, He should take my life. But I survived. I am still here,” she said quietly.

Despite everything, Busola expressed gratitude to the few people who supported her, especially her manager, whom she credited for standing by her during her darkest times.

Her story highlights the hidden struggles many public figures face behind fame and applause. It also serves as a reminder that anyone battling depression or hopelessness should seek help from trusted friends, family, religious leaders, or professionals. No one has to suffer in silence.
